This two-week evening course delivers hands-on training in stick (SMAW) welding. Students will start with safety protocols and equipment fundamentals, then move into the shop to practice core welding techniques on industry-standard machines.By the end of the course, participants will be able to:- Identify and follow welding shop safety procedures- Set up stick welding equipment correctly- Run clean, controlled beads on flat and basic joint configurations- Recognize and correct common welding defectsThis course is built for beginners and for working adults looking to sharpen their fundamentals before moving into more advanced work.
Must be 16 years of age or older. Attendance on the first night is required to complete the safety briefing. GCTC will provide safety glasses, welding gloves, and welding hood. Loaner welding sleeves, toe caps, and shirts are available if needed.Students are encouraged to wear FR (flame-resistant) material if possible. If FR is not available, students should wear jeans and a long-sleeve cotton shirt, with closed-toed leather shoes.
